Green Energy- Renewable Energy

At Little Hereford Plumbing and Heating we are committed to developing a service for customers requiring renewable and green energy solutions to their heating and hot water needs.

This is a new industry and a growing part of heating and hot water sector and,as such, many customers want information and advice before proceeding with installation.
We have invested in training and technical expertise so that we can offer sensible, cost effective advice to all our customers.

At the moment our renewable energy division offers:

  • Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems

  • Air To Water Heat Pumps

  • Rainwater Harvesting
(We are currently researching Solar Photovoltaic systems and Ground source heat pumps and these will be added to our portfolio soon)

Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems

These type of systems are designed to fit on to the roof or walls of a building and work by turning the radiant heat from the sun into hot water. This hot water is usually circulated through a storage cylinder which holds the hot water to be used in the house. A well designed system will typically heat the hot water for up to 70% of the year giving considerable energy and carbon savings. We can supply in roof or on roof systems, flat plate or evacuated tube designs as required.
A typical 3/4 bedroom house can have a system (including a new cylinder ) installed for as little as £5500 (subject to site conditions) and with many grants being available from both councils and central government the costs can be further reduced- see our support page for information on grants

Air Source Heat Pumps

This is a type of heating system which takes the ambient heat from the air, and by way of the heat exchange pump, converts it into more heat. In some cases as much as 400% more !
The units look a bit like air conditioning equipment and can be sited in many convenient locations like lofts or outside, so they are very good for retro fitting. These units are ideal for hot water and underfloor heating systems as they operate on temperatures in the region of 55- 65 degrees Celsius.
In operation they are very quite, require very little servicing and are very energy efficient giving low running costs. At the moment we recommend the Trianco units as the are very good value for money - but we can install any type if required

Rainwater Harvesting

As water becomes ever more preciousmore and more householders and developers are installing rainwater harvesting systems. These systems collect rain from the building's roof and store it in tanks. This water is then used to flush WCs, run washing machines and water gardens, wash cars etc- accounting for over 50% of the requirements for most buildings.
The use of rain water harvesting is exceptionally good for the environment and for preserving our water resources and also for reducing costs of water bills

We work with Nimbus Rainwater Harvesting systems, one of Europe's largest manufacturers.

Systems are available for gardens only or for whole houses. Bigger systems can be produced on a be spoke basis
